Byko the Clown: Acrobat, Clown and Trick Cyclist from New Zealand 1930s

Here's a glimpse into the life of the acrobat, clown and trick cyclist, Russell Middlebrook, born in 1908. He performed all over Australia and New Zealand, making audiences laugh with his characters, Byko the Clown (sometimes spelt Biko) and Mademoiselle Fifi. In 1983, Russell was given a “Benny” by the Variety Artists Club of New Zealand, a not-for-profit organisation and showbusiness club, that celebrate and recognise variety performers who have achieved a lifetime of excellence in their field of the performing arts.
