So I've been having a delve into the British Newspaper Archive and discovered that Eddy and Roy Van Wyck were a juggling duo who were also known as The Juggling Demons. Often billed as “The World's Fastest Club Jugglers”, I've found newspaper clippings of them from 1923 to 1935.
There are also three, Pathe videos, two from 1931 and the third from 1933.
I'm still not sure who Eddy was but Roy (Vanwyck) was actually Mr John Roy Billam from Hull, UK. His father was Mr “Jimmy” Billam, a well-known sports commission agent from Hull. Roy started as a juggling apprentice in 1912 for one shilling a week. I've read several clippings which state that Roy was one half of the Juggling Demons and that they appeared in all of London's 73 Music Halls, performing together for 27 years. Roy married Ada Blanche Martin in 1924, a dancer from a theatrical family in Grimsby, UK. Roy later went on to form another juggling act called Melville & Verch, though I've only found one clipping from 1944 relating to this name. Roy also performed at theatres in France and Germany, and his final performance was at Harringay Circus, London in 1950. Perhaps their only connection to Edward Van Wyck was that they juggled clubs made by him.
